Commissioners headed to Guemes @ Guemes Island Community Center
Jul 17 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

You are invited to join the Skagit County Commissioners, Public Works, BERK and KPFF for a community meeting dedicated entirely to ferry operations. This is an opportunity to provide feedback about ticketing, scheduling, loading, parking, and other items for the ferry system. We are working on options for improvements, and we need to hear your thoughts and ideas. We hope to see you there.

When: 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 17

Where: Guemes Island Community Center – 7549 Guemes Island Road

The County has hired BERK Consulting, Inc. to undertake an operations and service analysis of the Guemes Island Ferry system that considers future and operational service. The study will address staffing, scheduling, ticketing, loading/unloading, and other items for the ferry system. The scope includes developing and evaluating ferry system performance criteria and service delivery options/alternatives.

BERK, in conjunction with subcontractor KPFF, will work primarily with County ferry staff, and seek feedback from the Guemes Island Ferry Committee and the ridership for advisory purposes. The culmination will be a long-range service and operations plan identifying activities, investments, and implementation strategies (as approved by the County).

Skagit County Commissioners, BERK and KPFF Meeting @ Guemes Island Community Center
Jul 17 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Check out the May edition of Ferry Replacement News. Find out about ferry replacement project funding status and upcoming work that we need the public to be a part of.

Skagit County has hired BERK Consulting and KPFF (the consultant working with Whatcom County on their plans for replacement of the Lummi Island Ferry) to undertake an operations and service analysis that considers current and future ferry operations and service. The study will address staffing, ticketing, loading/unloading, vehicle queuing, parking and other items for the ferry system. BERK and KPFF will work with the County ferry staff, and seek feedback from the Guemes Island Ferry Committee and island residents for advisory purposes. There are two opportunities coming up to meet BERK and KPFF and discuss your ideas for ferry service improvement.

Public Works will meet with the Guemes Island Ferry Committee, BERK and KPFF; you are invited.

    • When: Thursday, June 13 at 4:00 p.m.
    • Where: Anacortes Library – 1220 10th St.

The Board of Skagit County Commissioners will host a community meeting with BERK and KPFF this summer; we hope to see you there.

    • Where: Guemes Island Community Center – 7549 Guemes Island Road

We will also solicit input using the survey platform that riders used in 2017 to share feedback. Check out the results from the most recent ferry improvement survey at publicinput.com/1972/.

The intent is to meet weekly to study and practice traditional and non-traditional African and Cuban rhythm ensembles including multiple drums, bell, and shaker parts. Our initial guide will be the book “Shadowing the Lion”, by master drum teacher Bill Matthews. The book is a collection of over 500 drum and bell patterns with easy to follow rhythm charts. The book can be seen at congajoy.com. The primary purpose of the drum circle will be to learn and play rhythms together for our own enjoyment. You do not need to have a drum for the first session, but if you do have one, please bring it.
